Our Story
Commune Summer School was founded in 2022 with the mission to improve the productivity and human capital of rural Egypt, focusing on Sers El Layan, Menofia. We view that education is the primary way that we can solve poverty and that education attainment is increasingly in the hand of the student, given their willingness & keeness to pursue it.
Our vision is that that given the internet, education has become accessible to all, and “self-learning” more than ever has become a necessary skill that truly has no limits to its application in this day and age. Additionally, we view that given the growing outsourcing & global work marketplace, English education is increasingly necessary for improving productivity in the future workplace.
As such, our mission is inspiring and motivating students, rather than “educating” them. Giving them the tools for self-learing and encouraging them to pursue English & Computer education on their own well beyond their time in the program, to hold themselves to a higher standard of performance, to have hope in the future and to be on the look out for all opportunities that come their way at such a young age.

Peer-Led Learning
The students that had attended earlier classes in 2022 have become volunteers in the 2024 cycle and have been extremely effective as tutors. This virtous cycle would significantly grow our volunteer pool and the capacity of the program into the future.
University Scholarships
We guide students through their university application process and encouraging them to seize alternative paths of learning. f.e. In 2024, we guided 6 of our top performing students to apply for scholarships in AUC we paid for each of their IELTS exam and coached them on the application process. 4 of them have received conditional partial scholarships in AUC for 2024 and 1 has received a full scholarship in Al-Galala University. This impressive success rate was only made possible by working with only the top students given the academic excellence of our student pool. We support more every year.
Government Scholarships
We coach the community about opportunities supplied by the government and provide workshops for the entry tests for government sponsored initiatives. f.e. in 2022 we paid for private tutoring for STEM school applicants that were later accepted into STEM schools. Since then, we have in-housed several workshops for the STEM entry exam and have held community awareness workshops encouraging applications to Digital Cubs of Egypt & other initiatives.
